Time to eat!

by ~kat on May.21, 2008, under school stuff

Today I get the pleasure of serving lunch to 30 children at my kids school. Joy is me or Whoa is me! Not sure which at this point. See my kids attend a very SMALL lutheran school. There are three classrooms. Room one is 1st through 4th grades with a total of 14 children. Then the upper room where the 5th through 8th grade and that has 14 kids. Then you have the Pre-K and K classroom with I think 4 children. They won’t be there today but still as you can see SMALL means small.

Every month a family makes, bakes, cooks the hot lunch and serves it. Which is cool, I think! Better than them eating those horrid public school lunches. I mean seriously, I still can’t eat pizza like the normal human because every time I take a bite I remember my school pizza. It wasn’t all that fab! I think honestly you could have thrown it against a brick wall and it would have crushed the bricks. Awful just awful!

So by demand of my children, I made sloppy joes! The boys favorite other than meatballs sandwiches, which we made last time. Oh and we had a few beggars for my dad’s home made refrigerator pickles. Plus all the goodies with it. Potato chips and Brownies. Pretty easy this time. Last time I made lunch I went way overboard with some casseroles and that. But in the end its a lot of work but it’s so much fun and I get a few minutes with them at school!

Been awhile …

by ~kat on Sep.20, 2006, under health, just cause, recipes, school stuff

Its been awhile since I posted but I’ve not been feeling all too well.  Got bitten by a spider which took me out for a bit.  That thankfully to a Urgent care dr is much better and I’m on the mend.

As for the rest, well nothing major just a lot of things going to hell in a handbasket and just needed some time away so I’ve been flying solo behind the scences.

Hubby is do home the end of this week and let me tell you I am going on a much needed disappearance / hiatus.  I’m wore down, I’m tired, I just don’t care for much lately not even myself as I hardly get out of bed unless to work and even then I do it from bed most days.

This last week I’ve cleaned all my carpets with some EO’s that make the house smell lovely.  Was sick of lemongrass so I did some playing around.  My favorite is my marmalade mix that I use for my soaps.  Makes the house smell like a midsummer morning just after making orange juice.  The other is straight lime.

I’ve also painted my livingroom FINALLY.  I added about 28g of Lemon Puker FO to a gallon of paint.  WOW it’s 3 days later and I can STILL smell the FO.  Its amazing!!  Been thinking of making a few bottles for my fall fair to resell as carpet refresher’s or something.  Mix it with a bit of ps20 so it blends with water nicely and the customer has a nicer way to refreshen carpets when carpet shampooing them.

Virtual schooling for the kids also started which has taken up most of my days.  Its hard belive me just by myself so I will be elated when Noel is home and can help.

anyways, it’s 2:46 a.m. and I’m exhausted.  Ta for now!

Milwaukee Museum

by ~kat on Mar.26, 2006, under family, school stuff

We went to the Milwaukee Public Museum on Friday. Our school’s 4th grade class went and Jr is still currently in school. So I figured why not lets all go.

It was great! I personally haven’t been there since I was a kid. My boys oh so loved it. I know they wanted much more on the Indians & Dinosaurs but overall they were impressed. The live butterfly display was awesome. They’d land right on you.

Here are some pics from our visit.

Trust

by ~kat on Feb.13, 2006, under school stuff

There are many people in the public school system here I have trusted for a long time. My trust has been totally diminished. I am so glad I removed Jordan from school. Makes life a whole lot easier.

Phonics, Reading & Writing

by ~kat on Feb.08, 2006, under family, school stuff

Stopped at school this morning and had a meeting with the Title 1 teacher. She did a full eval at where my little J is at. She suggested some books and workbooks to use. So I went ahead and found them on eBay and hopefully I can win the bids.

Plus, yesterday I purchased all the Spectrum Writing, Reading, Vocabulary, Language Arts and Geography workbooks. All I pretty much need now is some assessment testing done which k-12 curriculum site has. I’ll probably have the boys walk through that later.

New Domain

by ~kat on Feb.08, 2006, under family, school stuff

Today I purchased www.excelbookworms.com for my homeschooling domain for the kids. This way we can keep better track of resources and sell/buy curriculum. Plus I’ve talked to another local homeschooling family and possibly will setup a forum for use by all.

I’m just a blazing along getting things ready. First time in a long time I feel organized.

DWL-G122 Wireless & ibook

by ~kat on Feb.07, 2006, under just cause, school stuff

I finally did it. I cleaned out my ibook and reinstalled all factory default software. Downloaded the driver (USB 2005/11/18 Drv1.1.2.0 10.3.X ) even though I only have OS X 10.2.8 and it worked. The only draw back is if I loose my wireless connection to my home access point I have to pull out the dongle and reboot, then once the os is totally loaded I slide the dongle back in and the wireless usb software pops up. I log in and all is good.

This took FOREVER to figure out. With enough perusing of the web I found lots of info on the DWL-122 so I jumped up a notch and bought the DWL-G122, I’m kinda figuring that’s what saved me.

Since we are homeschooling I really wanted to get all my computer’s wireless enabled so when we go to the library and that we will have our own computers.

Now to find a upgrade for my blueberry ibook to get it to go wireless and we’ll be all set. Problem I’m going to come across is compatibility with a higher OS version and it being such an older ibook. I may throw it up on ebay and use the funds to buy another icebook. We will see. Its one of my baby’s and runs like a charm but who knows.

Just glad it works!

More books …

by ~kat on Feb.05, 2006, under family, just cause, school stuff

We are so well on our way for homeschooling it rocks! I’m so excited. My 8 year old has been picked on all week by his teacher. He’s come home every day crying. I have to wait though till Wednesday cause it’ll give the USPS enough time to get the form filed with the state. It’s already filed for my oldest so I just need to amend it.

I was so lucky two weeks in a row catching an awesome eBay buy.
This pack of Social Studies & Health I got for $31.00 …

Social Studies & Health Books

This pack of Everyday Mathematics I got for $26.00 …

Everyday Mathematics

Plus, we got from a friend in North Carolina, a 5th grade set of LifePac Gold 5 the entire set for $25.00. Not bad considering it’s over $200.00 brand new and this is hardly used. Atleast it looks that way.
We are so set for homeschooling.

There are a few workbooks I’m looking to buy off eBay yet. Plus in May we have the Wisconsin Parents Association for Homeschooler’s Conference in Steven’s Point that we’re going to take a weekend and go with the kiddo’s. I can’t wait. Little vacation plus some education can’t hurt!

Open Enrollment

by ~kat on Feb.01, 2006, under family, just cause, school stuff

Printed out all my open enrollment papers for all of my children. We’re ready to fax morning of the 6th. I can’t wait. I look forward to not only the virtual academy the boys will be attending but also the extra homeschooling portion I will be doing.

We won an ebay bid last night for a whole lot of Fifth Grade books & workbooks all brand new. I can’t wait to get them and start planning. Never thought I would be excited to homeschool but I am.
